Convert Word documents to PDF in your browser

This tool turns a Word .docx file into a PDF entirely on your device. Your document is unzipped and read in the browser, and the PDF is built locally — there is no upload and no online conversion service. It preserves your document's structure and content: paragraphs, headings, bold and italic text, bullet and numbered lists, tables and images are carried across into a clean, readable PDF.

How to use the Word to PDF converter

  1. Add your document — drag a .docx file onto the drop area or click to browse.
  2. Choose a page size — A4 or Letter.
  3. Click Convert to PDF, then use Download PDF to save the file.
  4. Review the result — for heavily designed documents, check the PDF and adjust in your word processor if needed.

How it works

When you convert, the tool reads the .docx (which is a zip of XML) in the browser and turns it into clean, semantic HTML that captures your headings, emphasis, lists, tables and embedded images. It then lays that content out into a PDF with a bundled PDF engine: text is wrapped to the page width in matching regular, bold, italic and bold-italic fonts; headings are sized by level; lists get bullets or numbers; tables are drawn as a simple grid; and images are placed scaled to fit. Pages break automatically as the content flows. Everything happens in memory on your device, and the finished PDF is offered as a download.

Benefits and use cases

  • Share a fixed copy — send a PDF that looks the same everywhere, without exposing your editable file.
  • Reports and letters — convert text-heavy documents cleanly and quickly.
  • No account, no upload — confidential documents never leave your computer.
  • Keeps structure — headings, lists, tables, bold/italic and images are preserved.
  • Works offline — once the page has loaded, no internet connection is needed.

Limitations

This is an in-browser converter, not Microsoft Word, so it is not a pixel-perfect reproduction. It focuses on preserving your text, structure and inline emphasis; exact fonts and colours, precise spacing, multi-column layouts, headers and footers, text boxes, footnotes and manual page breaks are simplified or not carried across, and tables are rendered as a simple grid. The older .doc format (Word 2003 and earlier) is not supported — re-save it as .docx first. Documents in non-Latin scripts may not render fully because the built-in PDF fonts cover Western European characters. For heavily formatted files, review the PDF after converting.

Privacy

Everything runs locally in your browser. Your document is never uploaded, stored or shared, and the tool makes no network requests.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Word to PDF converter free?
Yes. It is completely free, with no account, sign-up or watermarks. It converts your document in the browser, so there are no per-file limits beyond what your device can handle.
Is my document uploaded to a server?
No. Your .docx is unzipped and read entirely inside your own browser with a bundled library, and the PDF is built on your device with a bundled PDF engine. Nothing is uploaded, stored or shared, and no online conversion service is used.
Which Word formats are supported?
Modern Word .docx files are supported. The older .doc format (from Word 2003 and earlier) is not supported by the in-browser library — please open it in Word or a free editor and re-save it as .docx first.
How faithful is the conversion?
It carries across the document's structure and content — paragraphs, headings, bold and italic, bullet and numbered lists, tables and images — in a clean, readable layout. It is not a pixel-perfect copy of Word: exact fonts, colours, precise spacing, columns, headers/footers and some advanced formatting are simplified. For most text documents the result is very usable; for heavily designed files, review the PDF.
Why does my document look a little different?
Word documents carry a lot of styling that does not map exactly to a generated PDF. The tool focuses on preserving your text, its structure and inline emphasis rather than reproducing every visual detail, so spacing and fonts may differ. Your original .docx is never changed.
