Compare two texts line by line

This tool compares two blocks of text entirely in your browser and shows exactly what changed — which lines were added, removed, changed or unchanged — with a clear diff and statistics. It uses a deterministic line-based algorithm, not semantic or AI analysis.

How it works

  1. Paste your first text into Text A and the second into Text B.
  2. Optionally ignore case or spacing so minor formatting doesn't count as a change.
  3. Click Compare to see the line-by-line diff and statistics.
  4. Swap the texts, copy the differences, or clear to start over.

What you'll see

  • A clear verdict — including “Texts are identical” when they match.
  • Line statistics — lines in A and B, plus added, removed, unchanged and changed.
  • A readable diff — each line marked added (+), removed (−) or unchanged, with a text label as well as colour.
  • Copyable results — export the diff as plain text.

How the comparison works

The tool lines up the two texts using a longest-common-subsequence diff, marking each line as unchanged, added or removed. Where a removed line is immediately followed by an added line, that pair is counted as a changed line. It is a reliable, predictable comparison — it does not attempt to understand meaning.

Tips

For the cleanest results, compare texts with consistent line breaks. Turn on the case and whitespace options when you only care about substantive differences, and use Swap to view the comparison from the other direction.

Privacy

Everything runs locally in your browser. Both texts are never uploaded, stored or shared, and the tool makes no network requests or use of external libraries.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the comparison work?
It uses a deterministic line-based diff (longest common subsequence) to line up the two texts and mark each line as unchanged, added or removed. Runs of a removed line followed by an added line are counted as changed lines.
Is this an AI or semantic comparison?
No. It is a straightforward, reliable line-by-line comparison — it does not claim to understand meaning or perform semantic/AI analysis. It compares the actual text of each line.
What statistics does it show?
The number of lines in Text A and Text B, and how many lines were added, removed, unchanged and changed. If the two texts match, it clearly states that they are identical.
Can I ignore case or spacing?
Yes. Optional toggles let you compare case-insensitively and ignore leading/trailing whitespace, so minor formatting differences don't show up as changes. You can also swap the two texts with one click.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. Both texts are compared entirely in your browser. They are never uploaded, stored or shared, and the tool makes no network requests or use of external libraries.
