Convert WebP images to JPG or PNG

This tool turns a WebP image into a JPG or PNG entirely in your browser — no upload and no network request. Choose PNG to keep transparency, or JPG for a smaller file where you can set the quality and a background colour for transparent areas.

How to use the WebP Converter

  1. Add your WebP — drag it onto the drop area or click to browse.
  2. Pick the output format — PNG (keeps transparency) or JPG.
  3. For JPG, set the quality and a background colour for transparent areas.
  4. Click Convert, then Download. Use Clear to start over.

How it works

The browser decodes your WebP and draws it onto an off-screen canvas, then encodes that canvas to your chosen format. For PNG the transparency is preserved; for JPG the canvas is first filled with your background colour, because JPG cannot store transparency, and then encoded at your chosen quality. Everything happens in memory on your device, and the temporary download link is released when you convert again or clear.

Benefits and use cases

  • Compatibility — turn WebP into JPG or PNG for apps that do not accept WebP.
  • Keep transparency — PNG output preserves see-through areas.
  • Smaller shares — JPG output for compact, easy-to-send files.
  • Control the result — quality and background options for JPG.
  • Private and offline — your image never leaves your device.

Limitations

This tool converts from WebP to JPG or PNG and stays focused on that; it does not claim other formats. It relies on your browser being able to decode WebP — almost all current browsers can, and if yours cannot it shows a clear message instead of a broken file. JPG output has no transparency (transparent areas take the background colour) and is lossy. Very large images are guarded against to keep the browser responsive.

Privacy

Everything runs locally in your browser. Your image is never uploaded, stored or shared, and the tool makes no network requests.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which conversions does this tool do?
It converts WebP images to JPG or PNG. Choose PNG to keep any transparency, or JPG for a smaller file where you can set the quality and a background colour for transparent areas.
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. Your WebP is decoded and re-encoded entirely inside your own browser. It is never uploaded, stored or shared, so it is safe to convert private images.
What happens to transparency?
Converting to PNG preserves transparency. Converting to JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with a background colour you choose (white by default) before encoding.
My browser will not open the WebP — what then?
This tool relies on the browser being able to decode WebP. Almost all current browsers can, but if yours cannot, the tool shows a clear message rather than producing a broken file. Updating your browser usually resolves it.
Is there a quality setting?
Yes, but only for JPG output, where quality trades file size against detail. PNG is lossless, so no quality slider is shown for it.

Background Remover

Remove a solid or near-uniform background from an image in your browser and get a transparent PNG. It uses a local colour-based edge algorithm — not an AI model — and works best on product shots, logos and graphics. Your image is never uploaded.
