Background Remover

Remove a solid or near-uniform background from an image in your browser and get a transparent PNG. It uses a local colour-based edge algorithm — not an AI model — and works best on product shots, logos and graphics. Your image is never uploaded.

Remove a solid background and get a transparent PNG

This tool removes a solid or near-uniform background from an image entirely in your browser and gives you a PNG with a real transparent background. It uses a genuine colour-based edge algorithm — not an AI model — so it is fast, private and fully offline, and it works best on product photos, logos, icons and graphics that sit on a plain background.

How to use the Background Remover

  1. Add your image — drag it onto the drop area or click to browse.
  2. Adjust the tolerance if needed — higher removes more similar colours, lower is more cautious.
  3. Choose the result background — transparent, white, or a custom colour.
  4. Click Remove background, then Download PNG. Use Clear to start over.

How it works

The tool reads your image into a canvas and looks at the colour around the edges to learn the background colour. Starting from the border, it follows connected pixels whose colour is within your chosen tolerance of that background colour and makes them transparent — a technique called edge flood-fill. Because it only removes the background region that is connected to the edges, areas inside the subject are kept even if they happen to share a colour with the background. The result is a real PNG alpha channel; if you pick white or a custom colour instead, the subject is placed on that solid background.

Benefits and use cases

  • Product photos — drop a product shot on white and get a clean transparent cut-out.
  • Logos & icons — remove a flat background for use on any colour.
  • Marketplace listings — meet "white/transparent background" requirements.
  • Fast & private — no AI service, no upload, works offline.
  • Real transparency — genuine PNG alpha, not a fake preview.

Limitations

This is a colour-based remover, not a machine-learning subject cut-out. It excels on plain, evenly-lit backgrounds that contrast with the subject, but it cannot cleanly isolate a person or object from a busy, multi-coloured scene, and very fine edges such as hair or fur are hard for any colour-based method. If a background colour also appears in the subject, raising the tolerance may remove parts of the subject — lower it in that case. Because it is honest about what it does, it will not pretend to be an AI eraser.

Privacy

Everything runs locally in your browser. Your image is never uploaded, stored or shared, and the tool makes no network requests.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does this background remover work?
It uses a genuine local algorithm: starting from the edges of the image, it removes the connected background region whose colour is close to the border colour, within a tolerance you control, and makes those pixels transparent. It runs entirely in your browser — there is no AI model, no upload and no network request.
Is this an AI background remover?
No, and it does not pretend to be. It is a colour-based (edge flood-fill) remover. That means it works very well on images with a solid or near-uniform background — product photos on white, logos, graphics, screenshots — but it is not a machine-learning subject cut-out and will not cleanly isolate a person from a busy, multi-coloured background.
Does it produce real transparency?
Yes. The result is a PNG with a genuine alpha channel: the removed background pixels are fully transparent. You can also place the subject on a white or custom-colour background instead if you prefer an opaque image.
How do I get a cleaner cut-out?
Use an image with a plain, evenly-lit background that contrasts with the subject, and adjust the tolerance: raise it if some background remains, lower it if parts of the subject start disappearing. Very detailed edges (hair, fur) and backgrounds similar in colour to the subject are the hardest cases for any colour-based tool.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The image is processed entirely inside your own browser. It is never uploaded, stored or shared, and the tool makes no network requests. It works offline once the page has loaded.
