Summarise text into its key points

This summariser is extractive and local: instead of rewriting your text with an AI model, it splits it into sentences, scores each one by its important repeated terms and its position, skips near-duplicates, and keeps the highest-scoring sentences in their original wording and order. Because it reuses your own sentences, it cannot invent, change or hallucinate facts. Everything runs in your browser with no AI model and no network request.

How to use the AI Summarizer

  1. Paste or type your text — an article, report, email thread or set of notes.
  2. Choose a length — Very Short, Short, Medium or Detailed to control how many sentences are kept.
  3. Choose a format — a flowing paragraph or a bullet-point list.
  4. Set a focus — Main Ideas, Key Facts, Action Items or Balanced — then click Summarize.
  5. Copy or download the summary, or move it back to the input to summarise further.

How it works

The engine splits your text into sentences (protecting common abbreviations such as "Dr." and "e.g." so they do not break a sentence), removes very common stop-words, and builds a frequency map of the meaningful terms. Each sentence is scored on the terms it contains, normalised for length, and adjusted for its position — opening sentences usually carry the topic. Your chosen focus nudges the scores: Key Facts favours sentences with figures and names, Action Items favours tasks and requests, and Main Ideas favours the densest topic sentences. The tool then selects the top sentences for your chosen length, drops any that are near-duplicates of one already chosen, and returns them in their original order.

Benefits and use cases

  • Read faster — turn a long article or report into the sentences that matter.
  • Pull out actions — the Action Items focus surfaces tasks, deadlines and requests.
  • Keep the facts intact — extractive means figures, names and quotes are copied, never reworded.
  • Bullets or prose — output as a tidy list for notes or a paragraph for sharing.
  • Private and offline — your text never leaves your device.

Limitations

An extractive summariser selects sentences; it does not understand meaning the way a person does, so it can occasionally keep or drop a sentence you would have chosen differently — always read the result. It works best on a few sentences or more; for a sentence or two, the text is already its own summary. It will not compress a fact into fewer words or combine two sentences into one, because doing so risks changing what you wrote.

Privacy

Everything runs locally in your browser. Your text is never uploaded, stored or shared, and the tool makes no network requests.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the AI Summarizer work?
It is a local extractive summariser: it splits your text into sentences, scores them by important repeated terms and position, avoids picking near-duplicate sentences, and keeps the top sentences in their original order and wording. It does not paraphrase or invent anything, and it runs entirely in your browser with no AI model or network request.
Does it make up or change information?
No. Because it is extractive, it reuses your original sentences rather than rewriting them, so it cannot hallucinate facts or add anything you did not write. It only selects and arranges the most important sentences.
Can I choose the length and format?
Yes. Pick Very Short, Short, Medium or Detailed to control how many sentences are kept, output as a paragraph or bullet points, and set a focus (Main Ideas, Key Facts, Action Items or Balanced) to steer which sentences are favoured.
What if my text is very short?
Summarising works best on a few sentences or more. If the text is too short to summarise meaningfully, the tool tells you rather than returning something unhelpful — for a sentence or two, the original is already the summary.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. All processing happens locally in your browser. Your text is never uploaded, stored or shared, and the tool makes no network requests. It works offline once the page has loaded.
