What a discount calculator does

A discount calculator takes the guesswork out of sales. Whether you are shopping and want to know the final price after a percent off, checking how big a deal really is, or working backwards from a sale price, this tool does the arithmetic for you in four ways: it finds the sale price, the amount you save, the discount percentage, or the original price.

What discount percentage means

A discount percentage is the share of the original price that is taken off. A 20% discount means you pay 20% less than the original price. To turn a percentage into money, multiply the original price by the percentage and divide by 100 β€” so 20% of 100 is 20. The bigger the percentage, the more you save.

How the sale price is calculated

The sale price is the original price minus the discount amount. In formulas:

  • Sale price Original βˆ’ (Original Γ— Discount% Γ· 100)
  • Amount saved Original βˆ’ Sale
  • Discount % (Original βˆ’ Sale) Γ· Original Γ— 100
  • Original from sale + % Sale Γ· (1 βˆ’ Discount% Γ· 100)
  • Original from sale + savings Sale + Savings

For example, a 100 item at 20% off costs 100 βˆ’ 20 = 80, and you save 20. If you only know the sale price (80) and the discount (20%), the original price is 80 Γ· (1 βˆ’ 0.20) = 100.

Benefits and use cases

  • Shop smarter β€” see the real final price before you buy.
  • Compare deals β€” turn β€œ25% off” and β€œsave 20” into numbers you can compare.
  • Price your products β€” set a sale price from a target discount, or recover the original price.
  • Check the maths β€” confirm the discount a shop advertised is really what you get.

Is it private?

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Discount Calculator free?
Yes. It is completely free to use, with no account, sign-up or limits.
How do I calculate a sale price after a discount?
Multiply the original price by the discount percentage to get the amount off, then subtract it from the original price. For example, 20% off 100 is 20 off, giving a sale price of 80. The β€œSale price” mode does this for you.
How do I work out the discount percentage from two prices?
Subtract the sale price from the original price to get the savings, divide that by the original price and multiply by 100. For example, 100 down to 75 is a saving of 25, which is a 25% discount. Use the β€œDiscount %” mode.
Can it find the original price before the discount?
Yes. If you know the sale price and the discount percentage, divide the sale price by (1 βˆ’ discount Γ· 100). If you know the sale price and the amount saved, add them together. Both are built in as separate modes.
Is my data stored or sent anywhere?
No. All calculations run locally in your browser β€” the numbers you enter are never uploaded, saved or shared.
